Book Launch and Public Exhibition Supporting 4ASDKids at Gallery 8
Gallery 8 was proud to host a special public exhibition and book launch celebrating A River Must Be, the new verse novel by award-winning author Kate Foster.
The exhibition brought together original artworks by leading Australian children’s book illustrators, creating a colourful and engaging display for families, readers, collectors and members of the wider Gold Coast community.
More than a book launch, the event was created to support 4ASDKids, a Gold Coast-based charity helping families access therapy, resources and practical assistance for autistic children.
Art, storytelling and community impact
Gallery 8 was honoured to provide the exhibition space and help bring artists, authors, families and community supporters together for an important cause.
The exhibition demonstrated the power of visual art and storytelling to create connection and positive change. Visitors were invited to view original illustrations, discover the creative work behind children’s publishing and support the fundraising initiative through the associated artwork auction.
The works ranged from playful characters and imaginative scenes to detailed illustrations that celebrated creativity, individuality and childhood storytelling.
Supporting 4ASDKids
Funds raised through the exhibition and artwork auction will contribute to the organisation’s work supporting children and their families across the Gold Coast.
4ASDKids assists families who may otherwise struggle to afford essential therapy and support services for autistic children.
The project also helped raise awareness of the challenges experienced by autistic children, including misunderstanding, exclusion and limited access to appropriate services.
About A River Must Be
Written by Kate Foster, A River Must Be is a moving verse novel exploring themes of identity, resilience, belonging and the importance of being understood.
The Gallery 8 exhibition provided a meaningful setting in which to celebrate the book’s publication while showcasing the work of Australian children’s book illustrators and supporting a local charity.
A public exhibition with purpose
Gallery 8 is committed to making contemporary arts experiences accessible to the public and supporting projects that create meaningful community outcomes.
This exhibition combined:
a public book launch;

a charitable artwork auction;
